Beat: A Night of The Crusaders

Tonight at the Boileroom, “A Night of the Crusaders” will be paying tribute to the legendary 1970s horn-led Houston Jazz-Funk group The Crusaders. Featuring some of the UK's finest session musicians they will be covering all eras of the band's history, from the early Jazz Crusaders material to the Street Life years of the 1980s.

The Crusaders trombone/tenor sax frontline became their trademark, mixing R&B and Memphis soul elements with hard bop, they were international jazz festival stars, appearing at many of the world's celebrated jazz events over their 50+ years in the business.

WHO'S PLAYING?

'Patrick Hayes' Crusaders,' a band featuring some of the UK's finest session musicians, is a tribute to the legendary 1970s horn-led Houston Jazz-Funk group The Crusaders.

The Crusaders trombone/tenor sax frontline became their trademark, mixing R&B and Memphis soul elements with hard bop, they were international jazz festival stars, appearing at many of the world's celebrated jazz events over their 50+ years in the business.

Highly in demand Saxophonist and reeds player Jonny Griffiths has performed with a wide range of artists including Craig David, All Saints, Michael Kiwanuka, Boy George and Jamie Woon to name a few. He has also worked on numerous West End shows including Kinky Boots and The Producers.

Top UK Trombonist Tom White has been a fixture on the London scene for the past fifteen years performing and recording internationally with an array of different bands and artists including Jamiroquai, Level 42, Incognito, Olly Murs, Emeli Sandé, Gloria Gaynor and Jamie Cullum amongst others.

Adam Phillips has performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in the music industry including Tina Turner, Ricky Martin,Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Lionel Richie,Whitney Houston. Adam has also been the duel guitarist in Hamish Stuart’s band for the last 20 years alongside bassist Steve Pearce.

As a Keyboard player Rob Taggart has performed with Ce-lo Green, Leo Sayer, Bette Midler, Sister Sledge, Tony Hadley, Rick Astley as well as a variety of West End shows and concert tours. Rob has composed and arranged music for advertising campaigns including Hewlett-Packard, Boots, Coca Cola, Kelloggs and British Gas. He has also orchestrated for the BBC Concert Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, South Bank Sinfonia and the Metropole Orchestra.

First call Bassist Steve Pearce has amassed a CV that reads like a who’s who of popular music stars from both stage and the big screen. James Morrison, Stevie Wonder, Wayne Shorter, Tom Jones, Al Jarreau, Madonna, Mark Knopfler, Hamish Stuart, film soundtracks Donnie Brasco, Evita and The Full Monty and many more.

Ralph’ Salmin’ s s signature groove has made him drummer of choice for artists, producers and composers worldwide and he has performed or recorded with Paul McCartney, George Martin, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Lady Gaga, Dionne Warwick and Quincy Jones to name a few. Ralph is also world renowned for his work in the film industry having recorded on over 180 movies working with the likes of Hans Zimmer, John Williams and James Newton Howard.
