Acoustic Triangle is a unique trio of classically-trained jazz musicians with an accessible and engaging approach to live performance. Their music contains ancient themes, classical influences, folk melodies, and a variety of jazz styles. They perform compositions by Grammy-winning composer Tim Garland and former BBC New Generation Artist Gwilym Simcock, as well as music by Henry Purcell, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Cole Porter, Bill Evans, Olivier Messiaen and Maurice Ravel.
Outside the group, the players’ credits include John Williams, the LSO and LPO, James Galway, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, George Shearing, Diana Ross, Cleo Laine, Clark Terry, Lee Konitz and Sting. Together they have recorded four albums and performed in venues and festivals all over the world - always without amplification. The trio is widely acknowledged for its ground-breaking site-specific work, particularly in sacred buildings, and has performed in most of England's ancient cathedrals.
Since its inception in 2000, Acoustic Triangle has undertaken collaborative projects involving Kenny Wheeler, Gerard Presencer, Liane Carroll, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, the Sacconi String Quartet, Carolyn Sampson, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Choir of Westminster Abbey and the King's Singers, as well as numerous radio broadcasts. They even appeared on-screen in an episode of ITV’s television series ‘Lewis’.
After the interval the trio will be joined by the superb Royal Holloway Choir, conducted by Rupert Gough. Acoustic Triangle has enjoyed a number of projects with the choir, including performances in Coventry Cathedral, Swaledale Festival, and St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. At this concert the programme will include the world premiere of a piece especially written by Tim Garland entitled Bird Songs.
