Jazz at The Pavilion

Our jazz nights at the Guildford Rugby Club Pavilion are held on the second Wednesday of each month. The seating is cabaret style and there’s a great atmosphere, a nice view, a large car park, disabled access, and of course a licensed bar with guest real ales! A very reasonably priced supper is also available before the gig – just reserve your table when you book your tickets.

The address is Guildford Rugby Club, Guildford Road, Godalming GU7 3BU (there’s a map and directions at the bottom of this page),  or please contact us if you need help. If you haven’t been before, please email us at info@guildfordjazz.org.uk if you’d like any more information.

The gigs start at 8pm, and the doors open at 7.30pm. To book for payment by credit card, BACS or to reserve tickets for cash payment on the night, please click the links below each concert to add the ticket type to your shopping basket, then click on “View Basket” (or “Cart” on the top menu). From your basket, select the number of tickets you want and click through to checkout where you’ll be given the payment options. There’s no booking fee for any of the payment options but there are discounts for Guildford Jazz members. If you’re not already a member, please click here to find out more about the benefits, and how to join. You can add membership to your basket and get the discount on tickets straight away (please note that although there are benefits in joining, all Guildford Jazz events are open to everyone – there is no need to become a member to attend!)

We’ll send you a confirmation email of your booking when you’ve completed the order. If you have any problems with the online booking just contact us here.

“The band is impressively hip…with a variety of rich melodies, vibrant harmonies and infectious grooves…the optimism of the music shines through like a shaft of sunlight on a winter’s day.” London Jazz News

  • John Donaldson – piano and arrangements
  • Greg Heath – tenor sax & flute
  • Jason Yarde – alto and baritone saxophones
  • Graeme Flowers – trumpet
  • Simon Thorpe – double bass
  • Tristan Banks – drums and percussion

This high energy sextet, with African and Jazz influences, was formed in late 2016 to perform the music of two titans of Jazz – Bheki Mseleku and McCoy Tyner. It was an ambition born of love and experience; Simon and John toured with Bheki while Jason worked with McCoy. These associations bring an authority and authenticity to the group’s music as well as having a strong influence on their original material.

Since the band’s inception it has released its critically acclaimed debut album McCoy and Mseleku and has played to enthusiastic audiences at club and festival appearances including A Love Supreme, Scarborough, and Herts Festivals as well as concert recordings for BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Now and in session for Radio 3’s J-Z

The Rugby club is on the main A3100 road between Guildford and Godalming, about 3 miles from Guildford town centre.  The club has a large car park, and the jazz club is held upstairs in the main Pavilion.   Coming south on the A3 from London/M25, it’s best to take the Compton exit, rather than going through Guildford town centre. As you come down the A3, go past the Guildford turnoff and ignore the turning off for the A31, then take the next exit onto the B3000 – it’s signposted to Compton and Godalming/Farnham. The slip road takes you to a roundabout – go left towards Compton/Godalming. Then just stay on that road for about 3 miles – eventually you’ll go over a humpback bridge then you get to a roundabout, just after the crematorium. Turn right, on the A3100 towards Godalming and the Rugby club is then on your right, shortly after the Citroen garage on the left.
