ARQ: Alison Rayner Quintet

Led by bassist and composer Alison Rayner, multi award-winning quintet ARQ are widely celebrated from several years of extensive UK and European touring. Lauded for their vibrant, communicative performances, their music combines richly nuanced compositions, rhythmic interplay and folk-infused melodies.


ARQ are widely celebrated from over five years of extensive UK and European touring and critical acclaim for their first two albums ‘August’ (2014) and ‘A Magic Life’ (2016), receiving national and international radio play and four and five-star reviews in jazz and national press. ARQ’s third album Short Stories was released in October 2019, supported by Arts Council England and the PRS Foundation and receiving extensive international radio play and press acclaim. Promotional touring was halted by the pandemic in Spring 2020; this now resumes with an appearance at Ronnie Scott’s and regional touring from October 2021.

Chase away the winter chill with an evening of music from the latest album from the Gabriel Latchin Trio. I’ll Be Home for Christmas a heart-warming collection of seasonal favourites, expect new arrangements of classic favourites as Latchin delivers his signature straight-ahead style.

This truly is a seasonal feast for jazz fans!

The Gabriel Latchin Trio is now a major highlight on the UK jazz scene, with Latchin’s playing taking inspiration from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock. His international presence is growing fast with 15 million streams online to date. This evening’s performance features the long-standing rhythm section of Josh Morrison on drums and Dario Di Lecce on bass. The trio showcased this set on a sell-out show last Christmas at Pizza Express, London and we’re delighted to welcome them to Guildford this year!

Doors open from 7.15pm and the performance starts at 8pm. Please note there are no physical tickets, just give your name on the door when you arrive. There’ll be a licensed bar open on arrival and during the interval.

In line with government advice, we ask that you wear masks on arrival and when moving around please, and keep a appropriate distance from others . Surfaces will be cleaned before you arrive are we are currently limiting numbers to the event. And please do not attend if you are exhibiting any covid symptoms or feeling unwell. Most of our audience are likely to have been double vaccinated and although the NHS Covid pass is not currently a legal requirement, we will keep this under review.

If government policy changes, or local infection rates require a different approach, we will be of course be in touch.

The church is at the corner of Quarry Street and Mill Lane, at the bottom of the pedestrianised High Street. There is free parking on the High Street in the evenings, and the nearest car park is Tunsgate Car Park, Tunsgate & Castle Street, GU1 3UW
