Jazz at St Mary’s Church
ERIKO ISHIHARA QUARTET
For our first concert in the beautiful setting of the newly refurbished St Mary’s church just off the High Street, we are delighted to welcome Japanese vocalist and pianist Eriko Ishihara, whose reputation for her Diana Krall-style vocals is matched to a mature piano style that draws on Wynton Kelly and Gene Harris. With Colin Oxley on guitar, Steve Brown on drums, and Marianne Windham on bass.
7.30pm to 9.30pm
Eriko was born in Tokyo, Japan. She studied classical piano at Kunitachi College of Music and moved to London to take a post-graduate course in jazz and studio music at Guildhall School Of Music and Drama. Since then she has played at many of Britain’s top jazz venues and worked with many of the countries finest players, performing in such places as The 606 Club, The Vortex, Pizza On The Park and The Royal Festival Hall.
In 2003, Eriko signed a major record deal with the Japanese record company, Ponycanyon. She has released 4 CDs, the latest of which featured US saxophone legend, Scott Hamilton. She regularly tours in Japan and other Asian countries and has performed in major concert halls in Hong Kong and Korea.
Colin Oxley is undoubtedly a class leading guitar talent. Whilst studying at the Guildhall he won the Best Soloist award in the National Big Band competition and upon leaving he went on to work with some of the top performers in London including recording six albums with vocalist Stacey Kent and appearing at such festivals as Montreux, North Sea and Marciac. In 2001 Colin was voted Jazz Musician of the Year by the Worshipful Company of Musicians and is admired by his peers as an exceptional musician. He is also Guitar Tutor at the Guildhall School of Music in London.
Seating will be pre-allocated and spaced out very comfortably for social distancing.
