ZZZ Guildford Jazz Fest ’21

February 2021 update:

Unfortunately we had to postpone our inaugural Guildford Jazz Fest at the Electric Theatre last March due to government regulations preventing any form of live performance during the first COVID lockdown. At that point we postponed the Festival for more than a year to May 7-9 this year, hoping that we would be able to roll most bookings and all artists forward. Nearly a year on we find ourselves needing to make a decision about the rescheduled Festival with live performances currently banned once again.

We’re deeply sorry to announce that following recent discussions, Guildford Jazz and the Electric Theatre have mutually decided to cancel the Festival. The rationale for this is as follows :

  • There is currently uncertainty about whether any live performances at all will be permitted in May
  • If they are permitted then it is likely that they will only be possible on a socially distanced basis
  • We do not believe that it is feasible to safely or economically mount the Festival at the Electric Theatre with social distancing given the size of the booked audience,  the size of the Theatre and the packed programme of back to back events that the Festival comprises
  • The Theatre is closed for performances until further notice and it is highly uncertain when it might be able to reopen

The Electric Theatre staff are currently furloughed but if you are an existing ticket holder the Theatre will refund in full all ticket monies held as soon as possible after they return from furlough.

In place of the Festival and dependent on government regulations, Guildford Jazz plans to put together a separate Summer Programme of events from June through to September featuring some of the artists who were due to appear at the Festival, using a variety of both outdoor and indoor venues, that could safely cope with continuing social distancing requirements if required.

We are keen to translate the charitable ethos of the festival to the summer programme and hope to include several events in support of local charities.

Please sign up to our mailing list if you would like to receive news about the summer programme and other upcoming events.

Thank you for continuing support at this time. And enormous thanks also to our partners who so kindly supported the Festival and also to our programme advertisers
